Iowa Western Men's Soccer National Championships
2013 NATIONAL CHAMPIONS
The 2013 Iowa Western Men's Soccer team capped off a perfect 25-0-0 season with an overtime thriller vs the defending champions, Tyler JC. The Reivers tied the game in regulation 1-1 on a goal by Fazlo Alihodzic in the 64th minute. A scoreless overtime sent the game to PKs. Goalkeeper Will Lukowski saved three of the Apache attempts to win the shootout 3-1, giving IWCC their first national championship.
Iowa Western led the nation in goals with 109 and conceded just nine, shutting out 20 of their 25 opponents. Midfielder Greg Timmer was named the NSCAA National Player of the Year and Head Coach Jordan Carver was named the Coach of the Tournament. Lukowski led the NJCAA in goals against average in both 2013 and 2014. The team became just the fourth NJCAA D1 team to have an undefeated, untied championship season.
2021 NATIONAL CHAMPIONS
Iowa Western Men's Soccer once again reached the pinnacle of Junior College soccer. After being denied a title in overtime against Salt Lake CC in the 2020-21 Spring national championship, the Reivers reloaded with sophomore talent from the runner-up season. The team returned 19 players from the previous year to make another run at a national title.
IW ran through the regular season, undefeated with one tie, but fell in the Midwest District final to Iowa Lakes. The team earned an at-large bid to the national tournament, defeating Coffeyville CC and Laramie County in group play. A 1-0 victory over hosts, Tyler JC, sent the Reivers back to the national title game, this time against Arizona Western. Sophomores Giorgio Probo and Ibrahim Conde each found a goal and keeper Yuta Ishizuka kept the Matadors off of the scoresheet for a 2-0 victory and the program's second national championship.
Giorgio Probo was named the MVP of the Tournament and the United Soccer Coaches NJCAA D1 Player of the Year. Head Coach Mike Brown was named Coach of the Tournament and Ibrahim Conde was the Offensive MVP.
2024 NATIONAL CHAMPIONS
Top-seeded Iowa Western Men's Soccer defeated Cowley (KS) 1-1 (3-2) on penalty kicks to claim the program's third NJCAA D1 Men's Soccer National Championship. The Reivers defeated Coastal Bend and Harcum in group play, then knocked out ICCAC Conference Rival Indian Hills on PKs in the semi-finals.
Iowa Western opened up the scoring in the 8th minute on a corner kick that was put away off the head of Forward Carlos Camara. The Tigers found the equalizer with just over seven minutes remaining in regulation to force OT. After two scoreless overtime periods, the game headed to PKs.
The sure-footed Camara had his attempt glance off the post, and Cowley's first shooter, Andre Ecker, had his bang off the crossbar.
Hayato Takayama and Aron Martinez capitalized on their attempts, while the Tigers' Bello and Sota Nakazono finished their shots into the back of the net. Valutadatils buried his kick to make the score 3-2, then Tricarico made a huge save to his right, saving the shot of Inaki Lambarri. AJ Tesilimi stepped up to take the game-winner, but Kamy Ndione stopped his shot to keep Cowley's deficit at one. Tricarico stepped into goal again and saved the shot of Renan Syrio to give the Reivers the title.
Tricarico was named the MVP of the Tournament, Tesilimi earned the Defensive MVP award, and Seydou Diop took home the Offensive MVP award following the match.
