COUNCIL BLUFFS - Iowa Western Men's Soccer opened up the 2024 campaign with a pair of victories over Lincoln Trail CC (IL) and Southeast CC (NE) at Gale Wickersham Stadium over the weekend.
The Reivers, took down Lincoln Trail 8-0 on Friday evening, with six different players scoring a goal. Hayato Takayama and Carlos Camara each recording a pair of scores, and Angel Lopez earned four points with a goal and two assists over the Statesmen. Goalkeeper Francesco Tricarico saved a penalty kick in the 39th minute of the game as Lincoln Trail's Bernardo Hanel's shot went low and to the left and Tricarico blocked it cleanly on a dive to his right to keep the clean sheet.
Iowa Western kept it going on Saturday night, pounding Southeast CC, 9-0. The Reivers outshot the Bobcats 29-1, Carlos Camara opened the scoring with a diving header in the 6th minute while adding another in the 56th minute to give him 8 points already this season. Lucas Costa also scored a pair to help lead the team.
Iowa Western will be back in action on Friday against Western Nebraska at 7:30 pm, the field location is still yet to be determined, follow @ReiverSoccer on social media for updates.
