Monday Recap and Preview (11/8-11/14)
This past week the Iowa Western men's soccer team played in the District tournament in hoping to land an automatic ticket to Nationals. On Friday, they faced off against a strong Lewis & Clark team that qualified by winning the Region 24 championship by beating Illinois Central 1-0. In a tough windy game the Iowa Western Reivers got the win 2-0 goals coming from Claudel Ngongang coming from an assist by Keigo Tanaka and Giorgio Probo put the icing on the cake by scoring in the 85th minute off a free kick. Yuta Ishizuka and Haakon Utesch combined for the clean sheet for the Reivers.
In the final of the District Championship the Reivers faced off against the Iowa Lakes Lakers. Which would mark the 9th time in the year 2021 they have faced off agaisnt each other. In a tough, physical game the Reiver would lose their first game of the season in a 2-1 double over time game. Maruki Kawahara scored the Reivers only goal in the game by way of a penalty kick afte a foul in the box was called.
Now the Reivers will find out their seeding and group for nationals while they get ready this week for it. Nationals start next week November 15th and will run until November 20th in Tyler, TX.
