Monday Recap and Preview (9/13-9/19)
This past week the Iowa Western Men's Soccer team had two matches against two ranked opponents. On Wednesday September 8th, Hawkeye CC came to play our Reivers on which the game ended up going to Iowa Western with a score of 6-0. Junior Casillas scored the first goal of the game coming off an assist from Merdi Nkiliko 6 minutes into the game. Ibrahim Conde added the second goal 24 minutes later off a cross from Gonzalo Cuevas. Maruki Kawahara then added another off after a penalty was called in favor of the Reivers. Then the referee called for half time with the Reivers leading the game 3-0. Going into the second half Moise Bombito got the 4th goal of the game off an assist from Giorgio Probo. Conde would add to his tally off an assist from Joel Sangwa. Scoring the last goal of the game would be Wawa Palga off an assist from Conde.
On Saturday 9/11, the Reivers hosted the defending NJCAA Division II National Champions Southeastern CC who came into town and played the Reivers. On a hot day the Reivers won the game 5-0. The first half ended with both teams creating chances but ended with a score line of 0-0. Then in the 54th minutes Jiwoo Lee scored a great left footed off an assist from Giorgio Probo. Then almost two minutes later Wawa Palga scored another goal this week with an assist from Junior Casillas. Then in the 58th minute Junior got himself a goal after providing an assist as Probo provided again. In the 65th minute Ibrahim Conde scored a penalty after a foul was called in the box. Rounding off the scoring was Arata Saegusa in the 86th minute provded by Diego Quintana.
Yuta Ishizuka still has not been scored on in 5 games and has been the leader in a backline who has not received any goals agaist in the regular season so far.
This week the Reivers will be playing two games again. First they will travel to Mason City, Iowa to take on the NIACC Trojans. The Trojans currently have a record of 1-5 but will be looking to turn that around against the Reivers. Next on Satuday September 18th, the Reivers will be traveling to Marshalltown, Iowa to take on the Marshalltown Tigers who have a record of 4-0 and will be lookinf forward to opening Division I ICCAC play. Two away games this week for the Reivers as we will see how well this team does on the road this week.
