
Monday Recap and Preview (9/6-9/12)
The Iowa Western Reiver Men's Soccer team only had one match from this past week. On Wednesday September 1st they traveled to Norfolk, Nebraska to face off against Northeast Community College. Our Reiver won the match by the score of 2-0 following goals scored by Arata Saegusa for his first of the season assited by Giorgio Probo. The first half ended with the reivers controlling the posessions for the most part of the game going into half time 1-0. Going into the second half shot after shot went towards goal for the Reivers but they could not capitilize and the keeper had a great performance as well. In the 73rd minutes however th Reivers found some space and after a great run and cross from Keigo Tanaka, Freshman forward Junior Casillas was able to score his first collegiate goal of his young career. With the game finishing 2-0 the Reivers have now had 3 clean sheets out of 3 games. Yuta Ishizuka being the starting goalkeeper in all those contest.
Our Reivers were scheduled to play Scott Community College on Saturday, but due to traveling issues from the away side the game has been rescheduled to October 7th.
This upcoming week bring two tough test for our Reiver men's soccer team. On Tuesday September 7th it will be Hawkeye CC coming into town to play the Reivers. A ranked top 25 team when this article will be posted means it will be another ranked opponent coming to town and should be a very interesting match. They last faced off in 2019 when the Reivers won 2-0 in Cedar Falls. The Redtails are 1-2 in their season so far and will be a defensive, physical team wanting to cause an upset on the Reivers. Then on Saturday we have a huge game here at the Reiver Sports Complex with the defending DII NJCAA National Champions Southeastern Community College coming into town. The #1 ranked DII Blackhawks are 3-1-1 and will be looking forward on facing off the #2 ranked Reivers. These two schools haven't played agaisnt each other since 2019 due to last years match being canceled due to weather.
