On a chilly Thursday night at Titan Stadium in Council Bluffs, Iowa, the Iowa Western men's soccer team took on 10th ranked Iowa Lakes Community College in a highly anticipated ICCAC matchup. Iowa Lakes jumped out to an early lead in the 4th minute off of a set piece, but the Reivers settled in and dominated the rest of the first half. The Reivers got onto the score sheet in the 21st minute when Damia Viader refused to be denied and created a goal off of hard work and determination. Eduardo Barrios then smashed in a shot off of a clever pass from Sohya Yamamoto and Iowa Western went up 2-1. In a physical game that saw many fouls and yellow cards, the Reivers did well to stand tall defensively in the second half and keep Iowa Lakes out of the back of the net again. The Reivers finished with 14 shots, but only 5 were on target. The Lakers only had 5 shots, with 2 on frame. Jassem Koleilat and the Reivers defense were again up to the task. Coach Mike Brown had this to say after the victory, "it was a tough conference battle today against one of the best teams in the country. I am very proud of the boys for their response after giving up an early goal and I loved how they grinded it out in the final minutes."
The Reivers are now 11-0 and 5-0 in ICCAC conference play. Iowa Western will travel to Waterloo, Iowa to face Hawkeye on Saturday at 5pm in another ICCAC matchup.
