Council Bluffs – Reivers dominate NIACC with a convincing 4-0 win

Despite a 0-0 halftime result, the Reivers dominated conference opponent NIACC for their third conference win of the season.  Every ICCAC game is important this year as the ICCAC has limited the number of playoff teams, with only six of the 10 teams advancing to post season play.  The crucial three points were earned on a game winning header by freshman Vicente Gallardo and a combined shutout by Jan Hoffelner and Yuichiro Hayami.  Others to net for the Reivers were Duhaney Williams, Sabino Lozano, and Joao Burti

The save of the game was Hayami's penalty kick save.  Hoffelner was issued a yellow card for committing a foul in the box late in the second half.  Based on the rules of the NJCAA, field players and goalkeepers must sub on issuance of a yellow card.  Hayami would replace Hoffelner and save the ensuing penalty kick.  Similar heroics by Hayami occurred earlier this season in Cheyenne when Hoffelner was issued a yellow card on a penalty kick and Hayami would save the penalty kick.  "In my 10 seasons, this is a first to witness a goalkeeper receive two yellow cards for a penalty kick and the substitute make the save both times," exclaimed Head Coach Jordan Carver in disbelief.

Up next for the Reivers are the new members of the ICCAC, Dakota County Technical College (3-6-1, 0-3-1).  The Reivers (4-2-1, 3-1-0) sit in third place in the conference.  Kickoff is set for 2:00 pm on Saturday, September 30th at the Reiver Sports Complex.  The day has been pinned as Council Bluffs Youth Soccer Day www.cbsoccerclub.org.  Free admission and pregame tailgate encouraged.  Live stream can be found on the Reiver Sports Network on www.goreivers.com.
