New District But Same Results for the Women's Golf Team

The Women's golf team is once again District Champions. The 2021-2022 season brought with it a new alignment of Regionals/Districts. What once was just a tournament with the other ICCAC Junior College teams was expanded to include the Junior Colleges from Kansas, Wyoming, and Montana. The expansion brought together 12 teams. The win improved their record to 12 straight District Champions.

Consistent scores helped the women to a great start and a 10-stroke lead over Dodge City on Day 1. Led by freshman Katie Graham and a score of 76 and followed closely by sophomores, Luisa Gibson and Seira Kubo's with 78's. Freshman Madi Schlaepfer rounded out the scoring with an 85.

Day 2 brought improved weather conditions and the women took advantage of it and expanded their lead to 30 strokes for the win over Dodge City. Gibson had a stretch of 3 holes where she birdied to claim the low round of the tournament (72). Schlaepfer had a great 'bounce back' round and fired a 75. Graham showed her consistency and recorded another 76 while Kubo rounded out the team scoring with an 81. Sophomore Katie Schweers improved her scoring to finish just outside the top 20 in 21st place.

Gibson, Graham, Kubo, and Schlaepfer all finished in the top 5 and were selected to the All-Tournament team. The win qualified the team for the National Championships that will take place May 9-12 in Orlando Florida. The team looks to improve on their 4th place finish from last year's event.
