
Reivers Win Nine Events at K-State
The Reivers were back in action Saturday at the Kansas State University Thane Baker Invitational.
Mercy Honesty won the triple jump setting the National lead with a 12.83m equaling her outdoor best, and eclipsing her indoor personal best by over 12 inches. With that performance she improved upon her #2 performance in school history. Sakina Umar won the long jump posting a national qualifier with a 5.69m in the long jump. Monifa Edwards threw a collegiate best in the shot put of 12.71m to post the #8 performance in the NJCAA and #9 in school history. Angeline Estrada doubled back to run the 600 yard 1:26.10 to finish 5th and qualify for nationals with a converted 600m time of 1:36.44.
Cain Brown won the high jump with a 2.04m mark to tie his personal best in his season debut. Nikkolai Kennedy tied his season best in the 60m hurdles to win posting a 8.02. He was followed by teammate Jesse Malone in 8.12. Wallace Aflamah ran away with the win in the 200m with an indoor personal best of 21.38 to post the #3 mark in the NJCAA and school history. Ali Benzam debut in the 1000m winning in 2:29.40. Abagote Opiew was 3rd in the triple jump with an indoor personal best of 14.83m and teammate OT Omot 4th in 14.71m. Yekini Bowen was a double event winner in the shot put with a 17.20m showing, and the weight throw in 18.26m.
"This was a good weekend for our program with several strong performances. Juliana was awesome, and to have so many event wins and national qualifiers is a testament to our student athletes hard work over the holiday break." "Pierre setting the 1000m school record in his first meet is also impressive and Mercy Honesty's dedication to everything is paying off," said Head Coach David Burnett.
