
Sakat narrowly misses national record at Graduate Classic
The squads split this weekend opening with the Graduate Classic at The University of Nebraska Friday and the Kansas State University Thane Baker Invitational Saturday.
At the Graduate Classic, Juliana Sakat ran 9:30.36 to break the school record by 16 seconds to win the 3000m run. The former mark was set by 10x All American and 9x national champion Faith Linga. In 2020. This mark was just off the national record set by Adva Cohen of 9:29.04 in 2018.
Also in that race was Hafssa Boutrich who ran 10:08.59 in the 3000m to post the #3 in NJCAA,#5 in school history. Angeline Estrada posted the national lead in the 1000m with a 3:07.42 1000m. Wijdane Inzaline had a strong showing also in the 1000m run with a 3:08.20 good for #2 in NJCAA ,#9 in school history.
On the Men's side, Pierre Carlier had a strong season opener running 2:25.02 1000m to post the national lead, become the #9 performer in NJCAA history and break the school record. Also in the 1000m, Flynn Pumpa sped to 2:28.22 1000m good for #3 in NJCAA, #4 in school history. Geoffrey Ronoh ran 8:18.83 3000m to post the national lead, and teammate Barnibas Ndiwa ran 8:23.05 #2 in NJCAA.
