4th Ranked Reivers Roll in Season Opener

Estherville, Iowa

The first business trip of the year for Iowa Western Wrestling was nearly perfect as #4 Iowa Western topped 13th ranked Iowa Lakes, 36-3, in dual action.

"It was good to get on the mat and compete for the first time in almost a year." Said Head Coach Josh Watts, "We need to finish periods better, finish matches better, but it was a good effort and now we need to continue to build off of it."

At 125, Nathan Rizek pinned Iowa Lakes' Karsten Johnson in the first to set the stage early for IWCC.

Victorious decisions for Wyatt May (133), Creighton Baughman (141), Levi May (149), and Isaiah Crosby (157) preceded the Reivers' second win by fall as Fabian Padilla pinned Dallas Horne at 165 in the third period.

Michael Aguirre topped Massoma Endene of Lakes with a 9-8 sudden victory win at 174 before Josh McFarland, ranked #1 at 184, pushed the Reivers above the 30-point mark on the team score with another pin in the first over 5th ranked Logan Koedam.

At 197 it was Anthony DeAnda with a 2-0 decision over Garret Borth to make the team score 36-0 in favor of Coach Watts' squad.

Mitchell Williamson earned the Lakers lone points of the night with a 2-0, sudden victory at 285 over the Reivers' Dillyn Miller.

Next up for the Reivers is a clash with Iowa Central in their first home dual action of the season.  No spectators are allowed at the dual.  The current policy runs through February 15th when each institution will be allowed to permit limited spectators on a pass list basis.
