
Reivers Split in Texas
SAN JACINTO, TX - Iowa Western Softball opened up the 2025 campaign with a six game road trip in Texas. The Reivers (3-3) kicked things off with a doubleheader versus San Jacinto, a team who knocked the Reivers out of the NJCAA D1 Softball National Tournament last season. Iowa Western started the season off with a bang, scoring three runs in the third, three runs in the fifth, and four runs in the 6th inning of game one to take an 11-1 victory over the Ravens.
Sophomore Infielder Allie Cromer would lead the team, going 4-4 with four runs, a double, and an RBI. Freshman right-handed pitcher Olivia Dougherty threw five innings, scattering four hits while striking out a pair.
Game two saw the home team take an early 2-0 lead that lasted until the top of the 6th when Lauren Black stepped to the plate with two runners on in a pinch-hit role. The freshman blasted a 3-run home run over the left field fence to give the Reivers a 3-2 lead. That lead would be erased in the bottom of the 6th as San Jac tied the game at three. Then, in the bottom of the 7th, the Ravens plated the winning run on a fly ball that fell in to right center field with a runner on third for the walk-off win.
The team would drop a pair the following day to Galveston College, 4-0 and 10-9, then finished out the road trip with a pair of victories over Coastal Bend College, 8-3, and Navarro College, 5-2, on Saturday afternoon. Freshman Amelia Ehlert blasting a pair of home runs for 3 RBI in game one.
Cromer leads all IWCC hitters after six games, slashing .429/.478/.667. Dougherty picked up a pair of wins in Texas, working 17 innings, giving up ten hits in those three appearances while striking out 19 with a 1.24 ERA.
Iowa Western is scheduled for a four game series in Fort Scott, KS this coming weekend at the Ty Cullor Classic, those games may be pushed to Sunday, Monday pending the weather.
