Reivers Split on Sophomore Day

Reivers Split on Sophomore Day

Council Bluffs, IA

The Reivers split with Iowa Lakes on Sophomore Day Wednesday, dropping game one in extras 4-2 and winning game two 9-5.

Iowa Western took a 1-0 lead in the first inning when Aujenai Gregory plated Mattilyn Reiling with a single. But that would be all the Reivers would score before extra innings. A misplayed ball in right allowed Iowa Lakes to tie the game in the sixth after a short rain delay. In extras, Iowa Lakes plated three runs in the eighth without producing a hit. AJ Gregory would hit a solo blast in the bottom half to draw IWCC close at 4-2 but that would be the end of the scoring. Brook Melnychuk took the loss, throwing all eight innings, striking out 15 and only allowing two hits.

Game two would be a much different story with Mattilyn Reiling and AJ Gregory each hammering out three hits. Reiling had an RBI triple, while Katriana Bain, Myla Beckstrom, and Gregory would all double for the home team. Libby Walls went the distance, striking out four and allowing five runs in the win. The victory gave Iowa Western 40 wins on the season.

Iowa Western secured a host seed over the weekend for the Opening Round of the Region XI Tournament and will take on Southeastern CC on Saturday at 11am and 1pm.
