Iowa Lakes Grabs Split from Reivers

Estherville, IA

Iowa Western got back in the win column on Wednesday with a 6-0 victory over Iowa Lakes but the joy would be short lived as the Reivers would lose game two 2-1 after leading 1-0 into the 7th.

In the opener Mattilyn Reiling went 2-4 with three RBI's and a homerun.  Katriana Bain also homered and Taya Opheim tripled.  Brook Melnychuk was dominant as usual, completing the four hit shut-out with 10 strike outs.

In game two, the Reivers struggled at the plate, stranding eight runners and getting thrown out twice.  Libby Walls had a great outing, going 6 1/3 innings while scattering five hits, striking out 10 and allowing one earned run.  But it wouldn't be enough.

"It was nice to get back on the winning side of a softball game," said Head Coach Ben Greer. "But we've got to do a much better job of getting a better focus heading toward the post season. It's right around the corner and we need to get sharper."

Iowa Western is set to take on Central CC at home Thursday. First pitch set for 2pm.
