Reivers Drop a Pair at Indian Hills

Ottumwa, IA

Iowa Western dropped a pair of highly competitive games at Indian Hills on Wednesday.  Losing the first game 2-1 and the second 10-7.

Brook Melnychuk was excellent again in the circle for the Reivers but unfortunately got very limited run support.  Taya Opheim drove in IWCC's only run in the second to put them in the lead.  However, Indian Hills would respond with a solo homerun and an unearned run that proved to be the game winner.  Iowa Western left six runners stranded in the game, five of them in scoring position.

Game two was much more offensive with the Reivers and Warriors each blasting out 11 hits. Iowa Western saw the final out go into the first basemen glove on a line drive that was crushed by Chloe Brown with the bases loaded to fall 10-7. Mattilyn Reiling and Taya Opheim each had two hits. Nine of ten hitters in the game had hits for IWCC.

"These games were a lot of fun and competitive" said Head Coach Ben Greer. "We started to dial in more at the plate and I hope that pays dividends as we get closer to the post season. I know it was two losses but I thought we got better today."

Iowa Western is set to take on DMACC at home on Saturday and Sunday. First pitch set for 1pm on Saturday.
