Reivers Take Three from Ellsworth as Melnychuk Continues to Shine

Iowa Falls, Iowa

Iowa Western saw their winning streak come to an end at 14 games after splitting with Ellsworth on the first day of back-to-back doubles headers over the weekend. The Reivers cruised to an 11-5 victory on Saturday before stranding 11 runners in a 5-3 loss in the second game. However, IWCC would respond with two wins on Sunday, 7-5 and 10-1, to push their record to 18-2 on the season and 5-1 in ICCAC play.

Brook Melnychuk picked up three wins on the weekend while striking out 27 batters in 17 innings of work.  "We had a really tough weekend," said Head Coach Ben Greer. "Ellsworth plays with a lot of energy and we made some uncharacteristic mistakes. We made more mental and physical errors all weekend than I've seen all season. We were fortunate to get out of their snagging three of four games."

The Reivers are scheduled to pick back up with ICCAC play on Wednesday at home against Northeast CC out of Norfolk, NE.
