Reiver Men's Golf Capture the Southwestern Premier Team Title; Kosmicki Wins the Individual Title!

Iowa Western Men's Golf captured the 2023 Southwestern Premier title hosted by Southwestern Community College. The event took place Monday, October 16th and Tuesday, October 17th at Lake Panorama National Golf Couse in Panora, Iowa. The Reivers relied on steady play by shooting 295 in round one and equaling that total in round two for a total score of 590 to win by six shots over runner up Northwestern College (Iowa).

Sophomore Henry Kosmicki led the charge for the Reivers. Kosmicki opened the first day with a very strong even par (72) round, battling some blustery cool conditions. Round two saw much of the same from him, as he approached his final hole sitting even par for the tournament and holding a two-shot lead. Kosmicki hit a beautiful iron approach into the final green setting up a five-footer for birdie which he made, ending his second round at one under par (71). His two-round total of (143) was good enough for a three-shot victory.

Four of the Reivers top five players for this event finished in the top 7 overall for the tournament. Sophomore Matt Dennis carded a two-round total of (147) which was good enough to finish 3rd. Calen Bishop also a sophomore and freshman Ryan Lingelbach carded a two-round total of (150) which put them in a tie for 7th place. Sophomore Ethan Smith competed in the Reivers top five had a two-day total of (161) which put him in a tie for 31st. Iowa Western also had two competitors competing as individuals. Sophomore Trystan Du Plessis had a two-round total of (150) which saw him finish tied for 7th, and sophomore Magnus Nielsen carded a two-round total of (153) which was good for a tie at 15th place.

"We're striving for consistency as a team. Having all our guys play well on the same day has been a bit of a struggle for us this fall. I thought we were closer to that this event. We had some stretches of holes throughout the event where we could see what this team is capable of. We are just working a lot of guys through the rotation this fall, and developing our depth", said Iowa Western Assistant Coach – Ryan Norman.

The Reivers are back in action for their final event of the 2023 Fall season, October 23rd and 24th at the Carmichael Cup hosted by Bethany College. The event will be played at Salina Municipal Golf Course, in Salina, KS.
