The NJCAA District III Championship was played over 3 rounds and 2 golf courses in Wichita on Monday and Tuesday. Crestview Country Club (home of the Wichita Open) hosted the District Championship with the first 2 rounds played on the North Course and the final round played on the South Course. Both golf courses provided plenty of challenges, especially with a 20-30 mph wind both day. "We got off to a good start in round 1 but really struggled in round 2. It was nice to see the guys bounce back and play a nice final round to get us through. I'm glad that wasn't our last event of the season, because I still don't think we have seen our best performance. Hopefully we can show that at Nationals," Coach Thompson said of the team.
Jakob Falk Schollert earned All-District III team honors with a T-2 finish. Daniel Gutgesell earned the same honors with a 5th place finish. Kyle Hickey led after round 2 with rounds of 72 and 69, and his final round 76 earned him a 6th place finish individually.
The team shot scores of 295-304-288 to finish 3rd and earn one of the qualifying spots at the National Championship in Lubbock, Texas starting May 10th.
