Reiver Cheer brings it at National competition

ORLANDO, FL

For the 10th consecutive season, Reiver Cheer battled the competition from the ESPN Sports Complex at Walt Disney World at the UCA College Cheer and Dance National Championships.  Unlike other athletic teams, the Reiver Cheer squad commits their time and energy into supporting the NJCAA team sports on campus while simultaneously perfecting their Nationals competition routine.  A routine that only gets 1 shot at a championship in 2 minutes and 30 seconds each and every January.

A challenge awaited this year's squad as 16 team members made the trek to Florida with only 3 sophomores among the group.  The 3-day event begins with the mascot and gameday competition on Friday, followed by the National Championships on Saturday and World Championships on Sunday night.

The Reivers outscored all the competition in the open co-ed division in difficulty and basket scoring, while finishing in the Top 3 in cheer, execution, tumbling and elite partner stunts.  For their efforts, the Reivers finished a very tigthly judged contest in 3rd place behind Shelton State and Jones County.

The finish was the 4th 3rd place finish in program history and marked the 10th consecutive season the Reivers have finished in the Top 3 of the competition.

Preparation for the 2020 Championships have already begun with IW Cheerleading Alum & Head Coach Raven Gau hoping the Reivers can be ready for the Gameday & Mascot divisions in addition to the National and World competitions next January.
