Reivers Claim ICCAC Region 11 Championship
COUNCIL BLUFFS - NJCAA No. 25 Iowa Western Baseball claimed the ICCAC Region 11 Championship for the second consecutive year, defeating Indian Hills 9-4 at Doc Ross Field.
The Reivers (40-17) used a five-run first inning on six straight singles to start game two of the best-of-three series. Coby Hatcher and Skylar Graham each recorded a pair of RBIs in the inning, with Graham ending his day going 2-4 with a double and Nolan Geislinger finishing 2-2 with 3 runs scored while swiping his school record 44th base of the season.
Ethan Plog started on the hill for Head Coach Ryan Cougill, tossing four solid innings, giving up just one earned run on a trio of hits. Finn Edwards came into relief, giving up a run but stranded the bases loaded in both the fifth and sixth innings to prevent the Warriors from putting up a crooked number.
Indian Hills (27-25) would plate runs in the first, third, fifth, and eighth innings, but Iowa Western answered them in all but the eighth frame. Creighton Tuzzio pitched the final three innings of the contest, allowing just one hit while striking out a pair.
With the victory, the Reivers claimed the program's 29th Region Title all-time and will head to the Midwest District Tournament on May 14th-17th at the winner of Region 4. It is also the 25th time in school history that the team has reached the 40-win mark in a season, and the second year in a row.
