
Women's Wrestling Finishes as National Runner-Up
COUNCIL BLUFFS - Iowa Western Women's Wrestling earned it's highest team finish at the NJCAA Women's Wrestling National Invitational this past weekend at the Mid-America Center, ending the two-day tournament as the national runner-up.
The Reivers were neck-and-neck with Iowa Central with both teams sending four wrestlers to the finals. Iowa Western's Mia Siqueiros led off with a 10-0 victory over Indian Hills' Chasey Karabell to claim the 103 lbs championship. Rosalia Rubio followed that performance with a 16-5 win over the Warriors' EmmaLyn Burnett for the 117 lbs crown. The Tritons answered with a pair of victories in the 124 lbs class and 138 lbs class where Iowa Central's Alexia Ross defeated the Reivers' Julia Chambers 2-2 after scoring the last takedown in the first period.
Ayana Fletcher sealed the team placement with a 10-0 victory in the 160 lbs weight class, needing just 1:48 to claim the title. The Reivers finished with 191.5 team points, just 10.5 over Iowa Central for 2nd place.
Iowa Western ended the weekend with six All-Americans, Molly Sek earned a 4th place finish at 110 lbs and Hailey Medina took home 3rd place in the 117 lbs class.
