Interim Tag Removed, Joby Ramos to Lead Iowa Western Volleyball

COUNCIL BLUFFS (October 31, 2024) - Iowa Western President Dr. Dan Kinney and Athletic Director Shane Larson have removed the interim tag and named Joby Ramos as the 7th Head Volleyball Coach in Iowa Western History.

"We are excited to have Coach Ramos leading our volleyball program into the future," said Dr. Kinney. "He is an outstanding coach, and I have been impressed with what he has accomplished with the team this year after being put into the Interim Head Coach position."

Since being named Interim Head Coach in July, Coach Ramos has led the team to a 19-13 record this season with one regular season match remaining.  The team earned a berth in the Midwest District Tournament that begins on Friday, November 8th, hosted by Region 24.

Coach Ramos has been with the Reiver Volleyball program for the past three seasons, spending his first two as an assistant coach under Korie Tetzlaff where the team went 36-36 and was the Midwest District B Runner-up last year.

"I'm extremely grateful to Dr. Kinney and Shane for taking a chance on me to lead Iowa Western Volleyball," said Ramos.  "I look forward to the opportunity to bring the program back to the powerhouse legacy that was built before me."

"Coach Ramos has done an outstanding job in the interim capacity this season," added Larson, "We have seen a marked improvement in the program's success this year under his leadership.  I am excited to see the program continue to grow under his guidance."

A four-year NCAA Division I men's volleyball athlete for the University of the Pacific and the University of Hawai'i, Ramos started 51 of 54 matches for the Rainbow Warriors over two seasons, accumulating 2,023 assists, 9.77 assists/set, 310 digs, 94 blocks, and 57 kills.

Coach Ramos began his coaching profession as a graduate assistant at the University of Nebraska under John Cook for four years.  During his time in Lincoln, Ramos helped the Huskers to a 79-17 record, with the teams reaching the Elite 8 in all four seasons and a pair of national title games in 2018 and 2021.
