
Reivers Down Conference Rival Indian Hills
COUNCIL BLUFFS - Iowa Western Volleyball defeated ICCAC Conference rival Indian Hills 3-1 on Tuesday evening in a packed house at Reiver Arena. The 14th-ranked Warriors (11-7) came out strong in set one, taking a commanding 18-3 lead before the Reivers (12-8) went on an 8-3 run. However, the deficit proved to be too much as IHCC took the first set 25-11.
Set two would go back and forth until the game was tied at 7 points. The Reivers then went on a 5-0 run and never reliquised the lead, taking the set, 25-18, holding the Warriors to a -.061 hitting percentage. Set three saw Indian Hills get out to a 3-0 but Iowa Western once again, came back to take the lead on a 16-7 run, forcing 9 hitting errors from the Warriors to take the set, 25-16.
The final set would be the best of the night. Iowa Western raced out to an early 4-1 lead but Indian Hills came back to tied things up at 5. The game would once again go back and forth with both teams deadlocked at 11. A service error on the following point gave Iowa Western a 12-11 lead which they never reliquished. The Warriors would have multiple chances to tie it up but the Reivers found a way to pull ahead, eventually taking the set, 25-21.
Iowa Western's Genesis Simanca led the way with 11 kills for the Reivers and Freshman Setter Madelyn Uhlir added 18 assists and 4 service aces in the win.
The Reivers will travel to West Plains, MO on October 4th for the Grizzly Classic for a four game classic.
