Reivers Complete Show-Me State Sweep! Part Deux

Hillsboro / Park Hills, Missouri

Back-to-back weekends in Missouri, back-to-back weekends of back-to-back straight-set victories!

10th ranked Iowa Western (9-3) swept through Jefferson College for the second straight weekend, this time on their home court in Hillsboro and swept through Mineral Area (RV) the next morning just down the road in Park Hills.

The Vikings of JeffCo couldn't stifle the Reivers attack in the rematch as IWCC hit .264 in the match.  Delaney Esterling scored a team-high 11 kills at a .375 clip, while Elenoa Sing continues to swing well, picking up eight kills on 16 attacks.  Lauren Walenz and Iremnur Elmas combined for 34 digs in the match while Maike Bertens scored two aces.  Yadhira Anchante led the team with 31 assists as the Reivers collected their eighth win of the year.

Head Coach Alicia Williams' squad had a tougher test after heading down the road on Saturday morning to face Mineral Area.  "We came out pretty sluggish after traveling from Festus (MO) the night before." Said Williams, "We missed a lot of serves and couldn't find any rhythm, but fortunately neither could MAC.  Both teams worked hard and made some hustle plays."

Bertens paced the squad with 12 kills, while Esterling and Elmas each hit .500 while racking up 11 kills apiece.  Anchante had another stellar match, assisting on 39 of the Reivers' kills and three Reivers had double figures in digs, with Elmas' 13 leading the way in the straight set win.

"I thought we really used Maike well because she was playing very smart and mixing up her shots." added Williams, "They were a good team, but we've played almost triple the matches they had, our reps definitely helped us during some of the longer rallies."

The Reivers hit .287 for the match, including .382 in the third and deciding set to clinch win number nine of the year.

Next on the schedule for IWCC is another road trip, this time to Waterloo, Iowa to face Hawkeye on Sunday afternoon.  The Reivers next home match comes on February 28th at 1:00 pm inside Reiver Arena and can be seen on the RSN.  A limited amount of fans will be permitted after the ICCAC Athletic Directors voted to allow schools to begin allowing spectators on February 15th.  This policy will be reviewed again on March 1st.
