Reivers Overcome Slow Start to Sweep NIACC at Reiver Arena

Council Bluffs, Iowa

Midway through set number one on Sunday, visiting North Iowa Area was feeling good about its chances versus Iowa Western.  The Trojans, up 10-6 enjoyed their biggest lead before the Reivers called a time-out and eventually rallied to take the lead at 14-13 and win Set 1 25-19.  The following two sets were no contest as the Reivers raced to a straight-set sweep inside Reiver Arena.

"It took us an entire set to get into a good rhythm." Said Head Coach Alicia Williams, "Then Leah Palensky rattled off an 8-0 run in the second set behind the line and put them (NIACC) to rest from there."

Palensky added nine digs with three aces, while libero Lauren Walenz led the defense with 13 digs.  Yadhira Anchante added a block and an ace to go with 11 digs and great setting throughout the match.

On the attack, Emily Knight led the way with thirteen kills, while Iremnor Elmas contributed 11.  Larissa Schneid contributed eight kills, eight digs and added an ace.  Elenoa Sing made her presence felt at the net, redirecting several Trojan attacks, while collecting seven kills and serving three aces.  Freshman Delaney Esterling also added three kills.

Next on the schedule for IWCC is another road trip to Missouri.  After sweeping Jefferson College at the Grizzly Invite in West Plains, the Reivers will face the Vikings on their home court on Friday night at seven.  They'll continue the trip with a Saturday match against Mineral Area at 9:30 am before returning home to face Marshalltown on Sunday at 1:00 pm.
