Reivers Bring Blizzard to Southwestern, Plow Through Spartans for Road Sweep

CRESTON, IOWA

Iremnur Elmas earned the first kill of the match for Iowa Western on Tuesday night in Spartanville and the Reivers never looked back in another straight-set sweep to start the season.

For the second consecutive match, #6 IWCC (2-0) never trailed over the course of the match, dominating Southwestern (0-2), 25-7, 25-8, 25-8.

Elmas led the team with aggressive play, scoring 13 kills from her outside position to put the Reivers on the attack much of the match.

Lorraine Perez, playing as the Libero for a banged-up Leah Palensky, played stellar volleyball, lending her voice to her efforts on the floor, tallying nine of the Reivers 38 digs and five of the nine aces that the team earned on the night.

At the net, the Reivers picked up 10 blocks against Spartans attacks with Elenoa Sing and Dayan Malave leading the defense of the net.

Challenging matches await this weekend in Sterling, Colorado as the Reivers meet 2nd ranked Snow College to start play at Northeastern Junior College on Friday at 12:00pm (CST).  The team will also face 3rd ranked Seward, 11th ranked Utah State Eastern, and tourney host, #9 NJC.
