Iowa Western tops two ranked teams at Reiver Festival

Council Bluffs, IA- Second-ranked Iowa Western won a pair of volleyball matches against other ranked teams Friday on the opening day of the Reiver Festival.

The Reivers topped No. 15 New Mexico Military 25-20, 25-27, 25-18, 25-8 and No. 5 Mineral Area 25-16, 25-17, 20-25, 25-16.

""New Mexico was more aggressive," said Iowa Western coach Alicia Williams. "We had to work harder against them.

"We came out strong against Mineral Area. We had that third game (loss), but we refocused in the fourth game to put the match away."

The Reivers complete tournament action Saturday, facing Division II No. 3 Johnson County (Kan.) at noon and Iowa Lakes at 2 p.m.
