Iowa Western dominates in day one at Barton Classic

GREAT BEND, KS- Iowa Western headed to Barton County CC for the weekend to play in the Barton Classic. The Reivers faced Cloud County first on Friday, dominating all three sets (25-13, 25-21 and 25-17).  Setter, Hina Pua'a set up the offense for the Reivers producing 37 assists. The team was led by outside hitters, Irina Alekseeva and Kortlyn Henderson, scoring 19 kills combined.  Freshman, Genesis Sheridan had a perfect game, adding 7 kills for a hitting percentage of .538 and 4 blocks. Sophomores, Ariana Macies and Savannah Downing set the pace in the back court picking up 8 and 6 digs, respectively.

 

The second game was against host, Barton County, who the Reivers played earlier during the season. Iowa Western started out cold, dropping the first set against the Cougars. However, they picked it up, rallying the next three sets. (20-25, 25-15, 25-25 and 25-20).  Irina Alekseeva took charge of the front court for the Reivers, scoring 13 kills while Kelsey Havel followed suit adding 12. Hina Pua'a set the tempo chipping in 44 assists while picking up 7 digs. Libero, Ariana Macies took charge of the back court with 19 digs.

 

The Reivers will face Labette and Southeast tomorrow Saturday.
