Reivers sweep Indian Hills

Council Bluffs, IA- Iowa Western's volleyball team faced one of the school's toughest rivals Wednesday night, and the Reivers didn't mess around.

IWCC, ranked second in the country, dominated the first set against No. 16 Indian Hills and went on to a three-set sweep at Reiver Arena. Scores were 25-16, 25-20 and 25-22.

The Reivers, who won three of four matches last weekend in a tournament at Polk State College (Fla.), continued the strong play early in Wednesday night's match. That helped set the tone, coach Alicia Williams said.

"I think it was good to get some of the jitters out of the way. When you have a big home game like that, sometimes your emotions can get away from you. It helped get us in rhythm."

Williams said sophomore defensive specialist Ariana Macies did "a good job of taking control." She finished with 12 digs and six set assists.

Irina Alekseeva, meanwhile, led the attack with 15 kills, followed by 10 from Genesis Sheridan. Williams also said sophomore setter Hina Pua'a was "really active, which was good to see."

The Reivers improved to 9-1, with their only loss to top-ranked Miami Dade at last week's tournament. They next play Saturday at 17th-ranked Missouri State-West Plains.
