Reivers look sharp on opening day of the Reiver Classic

COUNCIL BLUFFS, IA- No. 3 Iowa Western ended its opening day of volleyball season with a bang Friday, sweeping No. 4-ranked Western Nebraska 25-18, 25-13, 27-25 at Reiver Arena.

Earlier, the Reivers opened their Reiver Classic tournament with a 25-13, 25-13, 25-16 sweep of Jefferson.

"Western Nebraska is always good," Iowa Western coach Alicia Williams said. "To sweep them says a lot."

One reason for the win was that the Reivers turned their weaknesses into strengths.

"We have had areas of our game that we were not happy with," Williams said. "We have been working on them in practice the past 2½ weeks. In those areas against Western Nebraska, we did really well. I liked our serving and passing."

Iowa Western wraps up the Classic on Saturday with two more matches, meeting Barton at noon and No. 12-ranked Laramie County at 2 p.m.
