COUNCIL BLUFFS (November 1, 2024) - NJCAA No. 2 Iowa Western Women's Soccer defeated Lewis & Clark College 4-2 in the Central District Semi-Finals. The Reivers (13-0-3) opened up the scoring in the 26th minute of the match when Sophomore Oruha Hayashi received a ball in the middle of the 18 yard box, played it back to Ryu and she one-touched a through-ball to Arianna Harrison who slotted it past the keeper.
Six minutes later, Alana Garcia played a long ball from the back line that found Hayashi who dribbled out of three Trailblazer defenders and found Laura Rodriguez on the near wing who hit a one-touch rocket into the back of the net.
Lewis & Clark answered in the 35th minute on a long throw-in that deflected off of a Reiver defender and right to the foot of Alessia Navarro who didn't miss her chance.
Iowa Western opened up the scoring in the 2nd half when Alaina Steding threaded the needle from the back line finding Honoka Nohara who took two dribbles and finished with her left foot into the far side netting to make it a 3-1 game. LCCC again cut the lead to just one when Navarro dribbled past two Reiver defenders and shot across a diving Alice Russell for her 2nd goal of the game.
Three minutes later, Hayashi took a shot on a free kick that was saved by Julia de Ritter but the deflection fell right in front of Ryu and she buried it to give the Reivers the 4-2 victory.
Iowa Western will now head to Tennessee to take on Motlow State in the Central District Finals which is scheduled for Saturday November 9th. Last season, the Reivers defeated the Bucks in the district final 3-1 in Council Bluffs to punch their ticket to the NJCAA National Tournament.
