Reivers Sink Lakers 1-0

Council Bluffs, IA: Iowa Western keeps shutout streak alive by defeating Iowa Lakes CC 1-0

How It Happened: The Reivers were able to control the pace of the game by dominating possession throughout most of the match. It looked like the Lakers wanted to sit back and absorb each attack and then look for their chance to counter. During the first half the Reivers outshot the Lakers 7-0, 2 of those shots were on goal. Most of the half and game was played in the opposing side as the Reivers continued to pressure the backline of the Lakers. The Lakers answered each attack with a stifling defense but were starting to show cracks as the game wore on.

After the break, the Reivers were able to move the ball quicker and tallied 8 shots in the second half, 5 of which were on goal. Finally, in the 79th minute, Lina Jaime was able to find the back of the net. Her shot rang out from 35 yards away and broke the deadlocked game. Estefania Cardona is credited with the assist. The Reivers would continue to attack the goal, searching for the 2nd goal of the game, but the final whistle was blown before they could strike again.

Notes & Numbers: Iowa Western improves to 8-3-0, 5-0-0 in Conference play. Goalkeeper Judit Gonzalez continues to keep her opponents shutout, her 5th of the season. Lina Jaime gets her 7th goal of the season while Estefania Cardona gathers her 5th assist.

Quotes: Coach Adam Sanchez: "Iowa Lakes came with a set game plan against us and stuck to it. They were prepared to frustrate us and fight to get a result. Our players were able to focus, make adjustments, and solve the problems in front of them. It was a great all-around effort and team performance on our side. The players were able to get the three points we were after and that's something to be proud of."
