Reiver Women Kick Off the Spring Season
The Women's golf team kicked off their Spring season in Warrenburg, MO this past week. The host team, University of Central Oklahoma took the top spot while the Reivers finished tied for 10th in a 13-team field.
Being the first tournament of this season for the Reivers it was the other team's 2nd and even 3rd events played so far. It showed dealing with the windy conditions and the tough greens was difficult for the Reivers.
Day 1 brought high wind gusts, which affected the play of the Reivers. The team was led by Sophomore Beatriz Pinheiro with a round of 83 (+13 over par) and Freshman Jennifer Cho, 87 (+17 over par). The team recorded a score of 350.
Day 2 brought even tougher wind conditions, and the scores didn't improve much. Led again by Pineiro with an 82 and Cho with an 85. Freshman Olivia Holyoak-Church was able to break a 90 with a score of 87. The team improved on day 2 with a score of 347 moving up 1 spot among the team rankings.
"The first time out of the season is going to always be rough," said Head Coach Matt Robinson. "It takes time to kick the rust off, but we might have a little more rust to kick off then expected. We just need to get back to work and work on the areas that hurt us this tournament."
The Reivers will take the week off for Spring Break and get back after it at the Bulldog Invitational hosted by Concordia University April 2nd and 3rd.
