Women Golf Team Opens the Spring Season with a Victory

The Reiver Women's golf team opened up play at the Ottawa Invite in Lawerence, KS this past Monday and Tuesday. And just like clock work for the spring season the weather played a major role. Day 1 consisted of rain the entire day with parts of heavy rain. The ladies were finally called off the course after 9 holes because a few fairways were completely under water.

The women were able to regroup and get a early start on Day 2 with Tee time at 8am. Because of the heavy rain that the course took on, all the teams didn't have access to the driving range to warm up. Which lead to an interesting first few holes for everyone. Dispute all the weather, the early start time and having to play 27 holes the Ladies were able to come away with a victory. Defeating the other 6 teams in the field. After the completion of round 1 the Reiver women held a 5 stroke advantage over Park University. They would see that lead grow during the second round and extend the lead by 22 strokes at the conclusion of the second round.

The team score of 317 in the second round represented the best round of the year for the team. "Having a score of 317 this early in the Spring and being the best round of the year so far speaks volumes of the hard work these ladies put in during the winter months" said Coach Robinson.

The newcomer to the team, Luisa Gibson shot the best round of the tournament in the second round (75) and finished Runner-up. Emily Spies picked up were she left off in the fall and finished 1 stroke back to Gibson to claim 3rd place. Marisa Weeks and Maya Northcutt finished in the top 10 (6th and T7 respectfully). Kassy Vest and Abby Depperschmidt tied for 16th place.
