Women Overcome Weather, Slow Start, to Finish 3rd at Bent Tree Intercollegiate

COUNCIL BLUFFS, IOWA

The Women's Golfers overcame rough day one weather conditions to finish in 3rd place in their hosted event, The Bent Tree intercollegiate.

Day one brought windy conditions with wind gusts over 30 MPH and sustained winds of 20-25 MPH.

The women couldn't get into a rhythm and posted a season-high round of 359, 7 shots out of 2nd place and 21 shots behind tournament leading Bellevue University.  Freshman Maya Northcutt paced the team with a low score of 87.

With the threat of inclement weather, day two started with the initial decision to play the front nine and then reassess the situation.  Luckily, Mother Nature held off just long enough, and the entire round was completed just in time as torrential rains began not long after the competition had ended.  The ability to get the entire round in worked well as the Reivers bounced back from day one to shoot a team score of 325, a 34-stroke improvement.  Marisa Weeks shot a team-best 79, followed closely by another solid performance by Omaha product Maya Northcutt, who shot a day two 80.  Sophomores Emily Spies and Kassy Vest also regrouped on their back-9 and shot a respectful 38, 39 to end the day at 81 & 85 respectively. The day two improvements rounded out with freshman Abby Depperschmidt breaking the 90-barrier, ending with a score of 89.

The Women will finish their Fall Season at the Bearcat Invite hosted by Northwest Missouri State on October 14th and 15th in Maryville, Missouri.
