Reiver Women Storm Back, Take 1st Place in St. Louis

WENTZVILLE, MISSOURI

Reiver Women's Golf overcame a 5-shot deficit at the end of Day 1 to overtake Barton Community College and win the 'Crossroads of America' golf tournament by 6 strokes. The tournament was played just outside of St. Louis in Wentzille, Missouri.  The tournament is a promotional tool for Junior Golf in the surrounding communities.

The squad used Day 1 to improve their season-best score, shooting a 320 among the group. Sophomore Emily Spies led the Reivers with a 75, while Maya Northcutt emerged with her collegiate best round of 76. Northcutt sliced 5 strokes off of her previous best round!

"It was great to see Maya play well.   That's a confidence building round for a freshman", said Assistant Coach Matt Robinson.

Also on Day 1 Abby Depperschmidt recorded her best round as a college golfer, firing an 86 as she continues to steadily improve.

On Day 2, Barton Community College sat on the leaderboard in front of the team and they needed a strong overall round to overcome the deficit. Proving that comebacks in the season's earlier tournament were no fluke, they did it again.  Improving the overall team score by 8 strokes from day 1, coming in at 312 for the team.  Once again it was Spies and Northcutt that led the way with a 75 and 76 respectfully.  Sophomore Marisa Weeks broke thru to fire a 79, the first time she has broken 80 in her college career.  Fellow sophomore Kassy Vest followed her day 1 score of 84 by remaining consistent, carding a day 2 score of 83.  Depperschmidt continued to climb, improving her personal best from the day before for an 85!

All in all, it was a great win against some tough competition and the coaching staff couldn't be happier with another strong finish.

The Reivers will be in action again in one week, this time when they host the Bent Tree Intercollegiate Invite on September 30th and October 1st in Council Bluffs.
