Women's Golf Finishes Strong in First Tournament Action of the Season

SIOUX CITY, IOWA

A busy week continued for the 2019-20 Women's Golf squad.  In their first full tournament of the year, the team celebrated a runner-up finish at the Lila Frommelt Classic hosted by Briar Cliff University. The tournament field consisted mainly of NAIA squads from the GPAC conference.  Day 1 began with the team scoring 336, good enough for 2nd place by two strokes in front of host Briar Cliff. Sophomore Marisa Weeks led the team with a low round of 81, her career collegiate low round.  Fellow sophomore Kassy Vest also bettered her previous career-low round with a score of 83.

Day 2 was delayed due to early morning rain, creating soft conditions.  The Reivers took advantage, attacking the green, resulting in a team score of 322!  IW was able to extend their lead to 21 strokes over Briar Cliff with the great round, but it wasn't enough to make up the deficit from Day 1 to take over 1st place. Sophomore Emily Spies bounced back to shoot a 75 and once again Vest bettered her low career round to post a score of 80. Freshman Maya Northcutt made a statement as well, carding an 83, a round that consisted of only 24 putts! Freshman Abby Depperschmidt had a solid showing as well, finishing in the top half of the field (39th place out of 91 players).

The Reivers will enjoy the week off before heading to Missouri for The Crossroads of America Tournament, Hosted by the Wentzville Golf Foundation.
