Reivers Place in Top 10 at Mid-States Championships

Wichita, Kansas

The bowling program headed to the Mid-States Championships over the weekend in Kansas.  A perennial tier one event each year, the tournament typically brings many of the top programs in the region for competition. This year all events are classified as tier two for USBC ranking purposes, however, this fact didn't hinder many of the top teams from making their annual trip. Co-hosts Wichita State and Newman University decided to keep the event the standard two-day event but separated the men's and women's starting times.

Saturday both Reiver squads performed well, with the main highlight coming from Women's Freshman Marissa Kearin earning the second all-tournament team nod of her career. Kearin knocked down 1038 pins overall leading to a 207.6 average and a 5th place finish.  Her 236 marked her high game of the day.  Teammate Dusty Spring also notched a top 20 placement with a score of 927.  Those performances earned the women's team a top 10 finish.

Highlights on the men's side came in a solid team effort on Saturday to end the day 6th overall.  That placement put them ahead of three teams currently ranked inside the top 15.  Sophomore Tim Lincoln finished 24th to lead the team with a score of 953 for the five games.  Sunday the squad didn't fair quite as well, still managing to grab ninth place overall.

"The teams really kept their attitudes up throughout the weekend, despite not achieving the ending we were looking for." Said Head Coach Chad Goodwin.

The Reivers are halfway through a six-week marathon featuring eight different events.  The back half of the stretch begins this weekend in Waterloo, Iowa at the Cedar Valley Invitational where the squad will compete in two events.  Saturday begins at 8:45 am, while Sunday starts at 7:45 am.
