Kearin Takes Third in Hastings

Kearin Takes Third in Hastings
Hastings, Nebraska

Both the Men's and Women's bowling teams competed over the weekend in a double-header of events hosted by Hastings College.

Due to Covid protocols each event featured two squads with each team having a pair of lanes to themselves as opposed to sharing a lane with another school.

In the Women's portion of the Bronco Open on Saturday, the highlight was Marissa Kearin earning her first all-tournament team award.  The freshman from Madison, South Dakota placed 3rd with a score of 815 over four games.   Kearin struck on the first nine frames in her second game to finish with a 276, the highest single game in program history.  Sophomore Shalee Bradley finished 18th on Saturday event as the Reivers took 10th overall.  National bowling power Midland University cruised to victory in the opening day.

The women also finished 10th on Sunday in the 'Bash' section of the event.  Despite gaining no ground in the final standing, the team was in striking distance of 6th the entire day as they finished just 100 pins shy of that mark.  Sunday's event was won by Grandview University.

On the Men's side, the team had a uneven Saturday in the Bronco Open portion of the event.  The squad could never could carry any momentum long enough to make an impact, with costly mistakes showing up at big times over the first day.  The 8th place team finish was led by sophomore Tim Lincoln, who bowled a 783 series for 13th place over four games.

Overall scores on the men's side were much lower on Sunday as a tougher oil pattern greeted competitors.  A very slow start was too much to overcome as the Reiver Men placed a disappointing 10th in the Bronco Bash portion of the tournament.  Bright spots included a top 20 finish for freshman Aidan Tisdall and a willingness by the team to want to solve the problem of tougher lanes conditions.

Notes: Saturday's event was on Collegebowling Long #4 oil Pattern. Sunday used Collegebowling Medium #4.
