Coach Vande Hoef and Five Reivers Earn All-Region Honors

The Iowa Western Women's basketball team finished the 2019-2020 season as Region XI Champions. The Iowa Community College Athletic Association announced the Division 1 All-Region teams and five Reivers along with Head Coach Lindsey Vande Hoef were at the top of the list. 

Head Coach Lindsey Vande Hoef earned Coach of The Year, finishing the season 19-11. Vande Hoef has an all-time record at Iowa Western of 116-39. This is her third Region XI Championship and third time earning the Coach of The Year award. 

Sophomore Sommer Blakemore, who has committed to the University of Tulsa to continue her athletic and academic career, was selected as the Player of The Year. Blakemore was a First Team selection during the 2018-2019 season, and was voted player of the year as she averaged 12.2 points per game, shooting 40% from the field and 37% from three-point range. She also averaged 3.6 rebounds per game and led the team in assists for the year at 84. 

Also making the Region XI First-Team were guards Jaiden Morris and Hayley Berfield. Morris was the team's leading scorer, averaging 15.2 points per game. Morris led the ICCAC at 22 points per game during Conference play and scored 20 or more points on seven occasions this season. Berfield averaged 8.9 points per game and lead the team with 56 steals on the year. She was second in three-pointers made at 51 and shot 37.1% from three-point range. Berfield also was second on the team in assists at 43. 

Sophomore Ladun Akako and Freshman Solape Amusan were both named All-Region Honorable Mention. Akako averaged 20 minutes on the court this season, contributing 5 points per game, 5.8 rebounds per game, and shooting 45.5% from the field. Amusan averaged 8.3 points per game and 4.4 rebounds per game.
