McCook, NE - The Iowa Western Women's basketball team ended the regular season on a high note, defeating McCook Community College 62-53 on Saturday evening.
Despite an uncharacteristically low shooting percentage game, the Reivers grabbed their 3rd straight win headed into the postseason. The Reivers connected on only 5 three-pointers and shot just 27% from the field. They made up for the deficit by shooting near 90% from the charity stripe, making 19 of 22 attempts with Dustie Obah leading the way with a 7-8 performance. The Reivers' offense was sparked by Sophomore point guard Sommer Blakemore, who dished out 6 assists, finding teammate Jaiden Morris on several occasions. Morris was the only Reiver in double figures, with 20 in the contest. Ladun Akako grabbed a game-high 11 boards for the Reivers, including nine of the defensive end.
The Reivers will host the Region XI Championship on Saturday, February 29th at 5:00 p.m. They will face the winner of the Region Semifinal between Northeast and Marshalltown.
