COUNCIL BLUFFS, IOWA

The Iowa Western women's basketball team is 1-0 at home after beating Cloud County 82-64 on Saturday, November 16. The win puts the Reivers at 2-4 on the season.

After two early turnovers by the Reivers and an exchange of buckets throughout the first quarter, the Reivers entered the second quarter with the lead, 19-17. The first five minutes of the second quarter included quick possession and exchanges of missed shots by both teams. A slow offensive start quickly took a turn for the better after two back-to-back three-pointers by Hayley Berfield. The momentum swing lifted the Reivers to an 8 point lead which they drew to 10 late in the second quarter. The Reivers held the Thunderbirds to shooting just 21.4% from the field and entered halftime with a 10 point lead.

The third quarter saw both teams struggle to connect on any buckets from beyond the arc. However, the Reivers pulled away in the fourth quarter, outscoring the Thunderbirds by 10. Guard play was key in the Reivers' victory as 60 of the team's 84 points came from the guards; Jaiden Morris (22), Sommer Blakemore (14), Nyah Morris (13), and Hayley Berfield (11). The Reivers also won the battle of the boards, with forward Bella Sparaco leading the team with 8.

The Reivers are back in action in Reiver Arena on Tuesday, November 19 at 6:00 p.m. against Barton.
