Gruelling Season Opening Road Stretch Comes to a Close as Reivers Fall to NIACC

MASON CITY, IOWA

A season-opening road schedule that saw women's basketball travel from Texas to North Dakota came to a close a little closer to home on Wednesday night as the Reivers fell short to North Iowa Area, 89-63.

Despite trailing the 3rd ranked Trojans by only five in the first half, a slow start 2nd half hampered the Reiver comeback.  NIACC struck for 27 third-quarter points as IW fought multiple players in foul trouble.  The deficit allowed the home Trojans to get to the charity stripe 35 times, connecting on 22 of those attempts.  One positive from the game was the Reivers' domination of the boards, winning the rebounding battle by 14.

The Reivers were led in scoring by freshman Jaiden Morris.  Her night finished with a double-double, as she added 10 rebounds to her team-high 19 points.  Sophomore Sommer Blakemore also chipped in 11 points, 3 assists, and 4 rebounds.  Freshman Bella Sparaco also added a double-double on the night, contributing 10 points and 10 boards.

The Reivers open their home season on Saturday (11/16) against Cloud County in Reiver Arena.  Tip-off is set for 2:00 PM with the game live on the Reiver Sports Network - http://goreivers.com/information/reiver-sports-network
