Redemption for Reiver women

Redemption for Reiver women

PARSONS, KS - The Reiver women are off to a strong start in 2019, going 4-0 to start the new year. After losing to Labette Community College in early December at the Reiver Classic on a last-second shot, the women were ready for their redemption game against the Cardinals on Monday, January 14th.

The Reivers showed their enthusiasm early and ended the first quarter up 17-10. A second quarter run by the Cardinals was diffused early by the Reivers strong offensive performance led by Sophomore Kiara Dallmann who scored 17 first half points, knocking down all three of her three-point attempts. The Cardinals continued to struggle to stop the Reivers' inside game. The Reivers dominated the paint and grabbed 53 team rebounds. Post players weren't the only influence of the game however, as all three starting guards for the Reivers pulled 5-6 rebounds each.

Another energetic start to the 3rd quarter helped the Reivers maintain momentum throughout the game. Labette committed 24 team fouls which aided the Reivers in collecting 16 points from the line, shooting 64% as a team. In a very physical game, the Reivers maintained composure, something Head Coach Lindsey Vande Hoef was proud of, "We displayed composure during some adverse plays… before the start of the fourth quarter, we emphasized composure and displaying good sportsmanship."

The Reivers let up offensively in the fourth quarter, but maintained their strong lead. "I think we did a good job controlling the tempo however Labette did better at getting us sped up - 24 turnovers... if we play with more disciplined it's a completely different game. We have come a long way since we last played them... looking forward to seeing how we continue to develop into a strong cohesive unit."

The Reiver women are back in action this Saturday, January 19th, against Region XI foe, Northeast. Tip off is set for 5:00 p.m.
