Perfect 100 Means End of the Line for Hoffman's Hat, Reivers Crush Versus CCC

CEDAR RAPIDS, IA

Reivers Shotgun Sports traveled to Cedar Rapids over the weekend to compete in a trap-dual against the Corridor Clay Crushers. The Award for most clays crushed, went to the Reivers, beating CCC by 41 targets. The Reivers broke 493 of 500 targets to set their mark for top overall team score.

In the Men's division, the Reivers made a close attempt to sweep all the medals. Freshman Mitch Hoffman had his best day yet, breaking all 100 of his targets to take first place. As is tradition, his teammates then took aim at Hoffman's competition hat, placed safely off his head, in honor of his perfect day.  Sophomore Weston Zolck was one shot shy of losing his hat as well, shooting 99 of 100 targets to finish a very close second. Several teammates were close behind, shooting 98 of 100 targets, but the medal for third place went to a Corridor Clay Crusher after settling the tie with a reverse run. Those shooting 98's for the Reivers were Jacob Slieter, Blake Steuben and Cade Van Tilburg, all freshmen.

In the women's division, freshmen Reegan Filip shot a personal best, 97 of 100 targets, earning her first gold medal of the season. Sophomore Chloee Verplank placed second, targetting 93 of 100 clays and a reverse run settled the tie between her and an opponent.

Coach Derek Pollock commented, "I am very pleased with how the kids competed this weekend. Though we had some of our top trap athletes gone today, the team still showed up and got the job done. We had several personal bests today in addition to those mentioned above, including Evan Viger (97/100) and Shelby Alff (90/100). Steuben also shot his personal bests of the season (98/100). Overall, it was a great day."

The Reivers travel to Grand Island in two weeks to compete in the AUCI Midwest Conference Championships. Be sure to follow @goreivers and @reivertrapshoot for more news and information!
