Men's Bowling Captures First NJCAA Title
CHEEKTOWAGA, NY - After three days of bowling and thousands of pins at Airport Lanes, Iowa Western Men's Bowling finished at the top of the standings, going wire-to-wire to earn the programs first NJCAA Bowling National Championship. "The team obviously did great this weekend," said Head Coach Chad Goodwin. "They came out and showed up; worked well together to get the job done."
The Reivers were led by Allen Stauffer who rolled a perfect game on day two; the first 300 at the NJCAA Championships since 2000 and just the 10th time in championship history. Stauffer would finish the weekend with the most pin falls, 2,759, to earn Tournament MVP honors. "What a weekend," exclamated Stauffer. " There's no better feeling like winning with your boys behind you. Shooting 300 and winning the individual side of the tournament is great, but winning the team event is a feeling like no other."
"Obviously, Allen shooting 300 and winning the individual side of the championship was a big part of it, but overall it takes a team to win the team tournament," added Goodwin. "Casey Montgomery performed well, finishing as the runner-up on the individual side. The guys came to win and that's exactly what they did."
The Reivers led Rock Valley 6243 to 6175 after day one of the singles and doubles tournament, then took a 235 pin lead over Hudson Valley after day two. On day three, IWCC held a 440 pin advantage going into the final nine baker games and the team never faltered, winning the tournament with a final pin fall of 14341, 534 pins ahead of Hudson Valley.
Both Stauffer and Montgomery earned NJCAA All-American status, going 1-and-2. Trey Hanke, Sebastian King, and Aydan Belfiore all finished in the top 16 out of 131 bowlers. Montgomery ended the men's singles tournament in 3rd place on day one and Hanke and Belfiore finished the doubles tournament as the national runner-up.
Iowa Western's women's team ended their three days in 10th place in the standings, with Rock Valley winning their 4th women's title in a row. Theresa De Werth led the Reivers with a 5th place finish to earn All-American status.
For the IWCC Bowling program, this is the 11th top-five finish in the last six years, both men and women combined. It is also the 25th team national championship that the Reiver Athletic Department has brought back to Council Bluffs since 2020 and 5th team title of the 2024-25 academic year.
