Reivers Take Down Spartans; Earn 3-Seed for ICCAC Tournament
CRESTON, Iowa - Iowa Western Men's Basketball went on the road to Southwestern Wednesday evening for the final regular season game of the year. The Reivers (18-11) and Spartans (10-20) went back and forth in the early going, but a late first half run by Iowa Western gave the team a 36-24 lead at the break.
The Spartans quickly cut into the Reiver lead in the second half as the Reivers saw their lead dwindle to just three points, midway through the 2nd half. Iowa Western would push lead back to eight and held on for the road win 76-63.
Jadon Cool had a big effort to lead the Reivers with 28 points while grabbing nine rebounds for the Reivers. Champ Calamese was effective as he scored 17 points on 4-6 from the floor, and 8-10 from the free-throw line. Calamese also dished out eight assists and recorded four steals. DaCarter Coleman and Daleron Thomas each reached double figures with 14 and 12 respectively.
With just one game seperating Iowa Western, Iowa Central, Ellsworth, and Iowa Lakes in the ICCAC standings, the Reivers won their final two games down the stretch while Ellsworth fell to Northeast, dropping the Panthers from 3rd to 6th, Iowa Lakes split with with Kirkwood and NIACC to stay as the 5-seed. IWCC held the tie-breaker over Iowa Central after a win over 2nd place Kirkwood earlier in the season, earning the 3-seed over the Tritons.
Iowa Western will host Ellsworth on Saturday afternoon at 3:00 pm in Reiver Arena.
Iowa Western finished the regular season 18-11 overall and 10-8 in the ICCAC. With the win tonight head coach Andy Shaw earned his 200th career victory.
