Reivers Outlast Marshalltown
COUNCIL BLUFFS - The Iowa Western Reivers returned to the win column with a tough 86-84 victory over Marshalltown Community College. In a back and forth game, the Reivers narrowly escaped with the win. The pair of teams would trade runs in the first half, and the Reivers found themselves with a 38-37 lead going into the break.
The start of the second half was all Reivers. Iowa Western quickly ran the lead up to 11 points, but Marshalltown would respond and chipped away at the lead. With just 6:00 remaining the Reivers took their lead back to double figures, but again Marshalltown wouldn't quick. In the final minute the Reivers had a turnover vs the Marshalltown and the Tigers would take advantage of the opportunity and knocked down a three-pointer to cut the lead to just 2 points. Jadon Cool would get fouled on the ensuing inbound with just 15 seconds remaining, but Cool would not connect on the 1 and 1 free-throw opportunity.
Marshalltown called time out and drew up a play and decided to go for the win with a corner three. Fortunately for the Reivers the ball rimmed out and Iowa Western escaped with the 2 point win. Jadon Cool led all scorers with 25 points. Amaahd Roberts had a solid performance with 17 points, and Champ Calamese finished with 14 points.
Iowa Western is now 6-2 on the season. The Reivers were ranked #17 in the latest NJCAA polls. The Reivers will travel to Highland, Kansas next week for a re-match with the Highland Scotties on Tuesday evening.
