
Reivers Open Season With a Win over Central CC
COLUMBUS, Neb. (November 5th, 2024) - The Iowa Western men's basketball team earned a 89-74 win over Central Community College on Tuesday night to open the 2024-25 season. The Reivers jumped on the Raiders in the early going taking a 7-2 advantage. The Raiders would settle in and took a 13-11 lead, but the Reivers would soon regain control and not let go. The two teams jostled back in forth in the first half, but Iowa Western was able to keep a slight advantage. The Reivers would take a 4 point lead into the halftime break with a score of 40-36.
The Reivers would control the majority of the second half and were able to push their lead up to as many as 17 points in the late stages of the contest. In the end Iowa Western's physicality and ability to get to the rim and finish were the difference. Iowa Western held the Raiders to just 33.8% from the floor for the game.
Jadon Cool led the way in scoring for the Reivers with 23 points on 7-18 from the floor, and 3-8 from the 3-point line. Daleron Thomas had a solid game in his first action as a Reiver. The Omaha native scored 17 points as he connected on three 3-pointers. Sophomore point guard Champ Calamese scored 12 points, grabbed 5 rebounds, and dished out 4 assists. Shontez Anderson also reached double digits in scoring with 10 points.
Next, the Reivers will travel to Iowa Falls, IA for the Dale Howard Classic at Ellsworth Community College. Iowa Western will take on Bay College and Macomb Community College who are both ranked inside the top 15 in the first NJCAA poll of the season.
