Reivers Complete Sweep of Southwestern CC

COUNCIL BLUFFS, Iowa - #1 Iowa Western Baseball continues its winning streak, completing a sweep of the Southwestern CC Spartans that picked up from a pair of wins on April 4th in a 10-0 victory in 7 innings.

The Spartans (13-30) thought they had plated the first run of the game in the top half of the 3rd after a walk by Jacob Angell and a single from Carlos Allen put runners on the corners.  Chris Lugo hit a fly ball to right field and Angell tagged but was ruled that he left early to negate the run. Pitcher Ben Zehr (2-0) got out of the inning with a strikeout to keep SWCC off the board.  The Reivers pitching staff allowed just one runner past second base for the remainder of the game.

Iowa Western (38-5) answered in the bottom of the 3rd inning, plating five runs on four hits including a bases-clearing triple from AJ Singer.  The Reivers added two more in the 6th and three more in the bottom of the 7th with Brayden Smith hitting a two-run home run for his 10th of the season. Brody Leyboldt followed the homer with a walk and Evan Saunders ended the game with an RBI single down the third base line for the run-rule victory.

The Reivers have won 21 games in a row, the most since the 2012 season that saw the 2012 national champs start the year with 17 consecutive victories followed by a 27-game winning streak that saw the Reivers outscore their opponents 292-77. Currently, Iowa Western has outscored their opponents 252-55 over their streak, winning ten of their last 11 games by run-rule. IWCC is also a perfect 21-0 in ICCAC play with 13 conference games left in the regular season.

Iowa Western is back in action this weekend in a three-game series with Southeastern CC from Burlington, IA.
